Bio/Overview

Coco Divas defined…

I don’t know about you but I am absolutely sick and tired of hearing negative connotations and associations that come with the word “diva.” I’m sure you’ve heard it all too: bitchy, rude, belittling, must have her way, selfish, self-centered, spoiled, arrogant, overly dramatic…sound familiar? It’s time someone set the record straight and take a stand for all DIVAS. And I happily take on that responsibility, with the help of my fellow divas, of course.

Textbook definitions such as “a term used to describe a woman of outstanding talent in the world of opera, theatre, cinema, and popular music” is a pretty good start but it’s so much more than that. We can begin with, “a woman of outstanding talent” but allow me to grace you with all that Coco Divas are!

A Coco Diva is any woman of color who embodies any combination of diva-worthy characteristics. She doesn’t necessarily have to possess all of them at once, but has the potential to do so. So what are Coco Diva traits? Fly. Caring. Divine. Confident. Nurturing. Strong. Graceful. Humble. Open to change. Loving. Empowered and empowering. Open-minded. Independent. Outstanding. Ready to take on whatever the world throws at her and throws back with equal power.

My goal for Coco Divas is to make it a place for women like myself who can have a place to network and fellowship without being forced to fit into any specific label…well I guess other than being a Coco Diva. It’s a place for Divas-in-training (no matter what age), mothers, mothers-to-be, wannabe-mothers-to-be…married, single, engaged, in-between relationships…DIY Divas, Call a Pro to fix it Divas…professionals, students, still trying to be professionals, retirees…straight, gay, bi, confused…rich, comfortable, broke, brokeish…okay enough I think you get the point.

A disclaimer: I do not profess to be an expert in any particular subject and I do not assume that I have all the answers. I created this site for a simple reason…satisfy my personal curiosities and hopefully yours. What I can say is that I promise to always be honest and cover a variety of topics and interests in the hopes of paying homage to fellow Divas, the Divas who have come before me, and the Divas who will follow. I embrace the Coco Diva in me, flaws and all, and encourage you to recognize your inner diva, embrace her, love her, and flaunt her.

And there’s nothing better than networking and socializing with other Coco Divas.  Seriously, what could be better?  I make it a point to surround myself with other women who are on a similar path as I am, and I encourage you to do the same.  I have a deep respect and admiration for a woman who lives her life on her own terms and defines herself, not allowing anyone else to define her.  With that said I encourage you all to comment whenever possible, adding your own Diva POV.  And FELLAS, please join in as well.  I welcome your feedback and involvement, and don’t be surprised if I feature one of you as well.

Stay tuned for more features including a social network, discussions, and events that allow us to really get to fellowship face-to-face.  In the meantime, don’t forget to visit Coco’s Boutique.

Thank you again for gracing this site with your presence, and I welcome, YOU, my fellow Coco Divas!

Respectfully,

Da Coco Diva

Proud to be a coco diva. Keep up the good work Junia. There is definitely a need for upliftment and motivation of black women.
